Is a website down for everyone or just me?

Last updated: February 4, 2020

Website Down is a free service that lets you check to see if a specific website is inaccessible for everyone, or just for you.  The tool tries to reach the web address you input, and then displays an information page with the results.  The information page lets you quickly find out if the site is down right now for other users too, or if you are experiencing a network connection error of some sort.

In addition to displaying a detailed result for the URL you input, the information page also displays other URLs that have been recently checked, sites that are down right now, most-searched URLs, common user errors, common server errors and what to do.  To check if a web site is down, please visit:  http://www.websitedown.info

According to websitedown.info, if a web site is not working:

This real-time website checker performs an independent site down or not test if you have encountered a website not working problem. We communicate with the given domain’s web server and a website down message is displayed in case of: server not responding, client error or server error http status codes. Please note, that we are currently unable to examine the functionalities of a site (e.g.: login, forum) or the page content itself, therefore you may get a site up message even if a blank page is loaded for the domain name.

So keep in mind that other reasons may exist as to whether a website seems to be actually down, or just seems down for you.  This tool provides a starting point in a diagnostic process, and can be quite useful.

HINT: If you are checking to see if a website is down from your computer, also try connecting from a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet.  If you are still unable to connect to the website, turn off wifi on your mobile device to connect over the cellular network, which is a separate network from your home or office network.  It is a quick and easy way to check and see if a website is down from two separate, independent networks.
