Along with 39 security fixes, the new feature with the most fanfare is Windows 10 Dark Mode support. Other new features in Chrome 74 are motion sickness reduction and additional developer tools. 2. Is Privacy Really iPhone? Researchers Weigh in on Apple’s Targeted Ad Tracking (Threatpost)

Each iPhone shipped by Apple has a unique identifier for advertisers (IDFAs) enabled by default. In response to Apple’s “Privacy? That’s iPhone” ad campaign, Mozilla petitioned Apple to change the way it handles IDFAs. Even though IDFAs are anonymous, they still build a profile. The article asks if true consent for building this profile should be opt-in instead of on by default.

3. How to Use Tech to Lower Your Production and Operating Costs (ReadWrite)

ReadWrite offers 3 ways for businesses to use tech to lower their costs. The first suggestion is to cut building costs related to HVAC and lighting systems. Next, businesses can use automation to save on human capital and create a safer work environment. Finally, 3D printing helps businesses save money by manufacturing their own tools and materials, and eliminating bottlenecks.

4. Best privacy apps for Android in 2019 (Tech Radar)

Tech Radar suggests several ways for Android users to protect themselves from malware and adware. Ideas include being cautious about what you download, only installing vetted apps from the Google Play Store, and enabling encryption. The article lists 11 apps for Android that can also help, such as a VPN, DuckDuckGo, and a two-factor authentication app.

5. Oracle turns to innovation hubs to drive cultural and business shift to cloud (Tech Crunch)

Oracle came to the cloud party late and has only a 2 percent share of cloud infrastructure services. They opened five innovation hubs to assess how to better transition into a cloud company. Hiring younger talent right out of college to staff the hubs is part of the change, as is rethinking Oracle’s cloud products, and the public’s perception of them.

6. Weaponization of vulnerabilities in Adobe products more than doubled in 2018 (Tech Republic)

According to a report published on April 23, the weaponization of Adobe software vulnerabilities doubled year over year in 2018. The main culprit in both 2017 and 2018 was not Adobe Flash Player as one might suspect. It was Adobe Reader. The report also states that buffer overflow was the most common vulnerability.
