Adobe to Patch Critical Flash, Reader, Acrobat Vulnerabilities
[Update, May 12, 2015. Adobe added Flash Player to its “Patch Tuesday” list of security bulletins posted today. Security advisories for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat were issued last week. Those advisories were replaced by Security Bulletins today, as expected. Updates to all 3 Adobe products patch critical Flash, Reader and Acrobat vulnerabilities. The priority ratings for Reader and Acrobat were increased to Priority 1 since the issuance of the advisories last week. The priority rating for Flash Player is also Priority 1 (except for Linux, which rates a Priority 3). Considering the priority and severity levels assigned to the updates by Adobe, it is suggested you update right away.]
Adobe has issued prenotification security advisories for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat. The advisories state that security updates to patch critical Flash, Reader and Acrobat vulnerabilities will be released on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
Adobe has assigned a Priority Rating of 2 to each of the forthcoming updates. According to Adobe’s Priority and Severity rating system, a Critical rating means:
A vulnerability, which, if exploited would allow malicious native-code to execute, potentially without a user being aware.
For updates that have been assigned a Priority 2 rating:
This update resolves vulnerabilities in a product that has historically been at elevated risk. There are currently no known exploits. Based on previous experience, we do not anticipate exploits are imminent. As a best practice, Adobe recommends administrators install the update soon (for example, within 30 days).
The updates will be available for Windows and Macintosh. Adobe said the impacted versions are Adobe Reader X (10.1.13 and earlier 10.x versions) and Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10 and earlier 11.x versions). The same versions of Adobe Acrobat are also affected. When the updates are available tomorrow, we suggest applying the patches right away.
