Microsoft began rolling out a new Windows 10 features update this week. Known as Windows 10 November 2019 Update, or the Windows 10 version 1909 Update, expect it to download and install more quickly than previous updates if your device already runs the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903). The faster experience is attributable to versions 1903 and 1909 sharing the same core operating system.
Some of the new features included in the release are improved control and management of notifications, adding events or reminders directly from the taskbar by clicking on the date, the ability to search and view both local and Cloud-based files in File Explorer, and more. Learn more about the new features on Microsoft’s site.
Download and Install Windows 10 Version 1909
Step 1. Launch Settings and select Update & Security. You can also jump there by typing “Windows Update” in the Windows search box.
Step 2. In the Windows Update pane, look for Optional updates available – Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909. Click the Download and install now link.
HINT: If you do not see the optional update display there, click the Check for updates button. If the optional update still does not display, your device may not be eligible to receive the update yet. This may be due to a lack of compatibility with critical apps and/or drivers, so check for the update again at a later time. Also see Download Windows 10 Version 1909 via Update Assistant below.
Step 3. Once the update downloads and installs, click the Restart now button to finish the installation process. If you don’t want to take the time now to restart your device, click the Schedule the restart link to defer the restart to a time of your choosing.
Step 4. To check your Windows version, type About your PC into the Settings search box. In the About pane, look for the version number under Windows specifications.
